"Still under development"

October 16, 2014  |  By John vb

 |  Version: PDF Architect 2.0.3

Pros

Ability to add only the functions you need or buy the pro version at a discounted price.
Version 2 is faster than the previous versions.
The free version allows you to do some interesting things easily, such as combining pdf files and deleting pages from a pdf.
User friendly interface. Organizes the files that you open in tabs.

Cons

The product with the full capabilities (pro) is not available as a trial (however, one can request a refund within 30 days after the purchase).
Pro version: It has many functions like other software such as Adobe but still needs improvement. Sometimes it takes to try two times to achieve a task.
I have not tried the OCR module (additional $ 24 if you have the Pro) but tried the conversion from HTML (web page) to pdf and pdf to Word. The accuracy is ok but still the formatting of the resulting document is not as good as it could be (Adobe XI is much better in keeping the format of the original document)
The free version pops up a dialog box asking to "activate" a module every single time you just click by mistake a function that you don't have.

Summary

This piece of software is worth to have, at least the free version. If you do not have access to a pdf editing program you may consider purchasing PDF Architect but be aware that it is not close to Adobe Pro XI (but much cheaper though). In my case I qualify for an academic license of Adobe (costs $ 120 instead of the $ 400 + for the commercial license). The cheapest I can get the PDF Architect 2 is $ 83 with the discounts (Pro + OCR). Because the difference is not so huge for me, I will go for Adobe.

"Horrible business model"

October 15, 2014  |  By a1a4me

 |  Version: PDF Architect 2.0.3

Pros

Viewer is free

Cons

You can't click on any of the "advanced" features without being prompted to buy the feature. If you bought them all, this "free" program would be over $100. You can't hide the features you don't have so you can't help but click on things you can't use. Even Adobe Reader lets you copy text from a PDF. With this, it will cost you $29.99.

Summary

Waste of time.

"This company wants to rip you off!"

July 09, 2014  |  By nneumann

 |  Version: PDF Architect 2.0.3

Pros

Has some useful functions, when you pay a lot of money for all keys

Cons

They say pay only what you need but when you start you realize you need to buy all options to really use the tool.

After I bought all keys (I think I payed almost 90$ in the end) I could not believe that two weeks later they wrote me an email saying that they launched a new version now (PDF Architect 2) and I need to upgrade for 60$!! They say normally it would cost 100? but when you look on the web site you see it only costs 79$. What a rip off after I already payed so much money. When you refuse the system asks you again and again, every single time you open the tool.

System is super slow and slows everything down.

When you want to create a PDF from a doc (which is the most simple part) it only works every second time, sometimes you have to try three or four times.

When you edit the text it always switches to a text font the doc cannot read and you have to choose the correct font almost after every single word, it takes ages!

Summary

I think this is not a serious company

"useless and unhelpful"

May 01, 2014  |  By a_newsam

 |  Version: PDF Architect 1.0.52

Pros

good layout of menus and functions

Cons

1. not intuitive to use
2. Type Text function is rubbish, so difficult to add and delete text
3. no user manual or help file with software nor either is available online
4. no live technical support; have to raise ticket and communicate by emails; the support guy sends copy-paste responses
5. no function to convert scanned text to "real" text

Summary

do not buy because you will be disappointed with the functions that don't work as expected, and you will waste time trying to figure out how to use the software
when I bought the software online for immediate install, an automatic email arrived with download link but NO activation key!
I had to email support team for activation key
this software is not worth the GBP 65 (pounds sterling) price tag

"Who Can Tell Without A Trial"

January 22, 2014  |  By codemonkey95037

 |  Version: PDF Architect 1.0.52

Pros

Interface looks intuitive

Cons

Except for a couple of Adobe Reader like functions you have to purchase features to even try them out.

Summary

This is a Source Forge Project???? Really sad to see where "open source" is going. I don't mind paying maintenance fees, if they are reasonable, for SF projects, but this kind of activity is starting to ruin the panache and appeal of SF... Until these developers give at least a 30 day full functional trial, stay away.

"Can't even copy content to clipboard... Seriously?"

January 17, 2014  |  By gotmilked4u

 |  Version: PDF Architect 1.0.52

Pros

An alternative PDF reader.

Cons

Toolbars are cluttered and packed with things it doesn't do. For free, anyway. Copy to clipboard has been disabled. So you can look at your pdf, but that it's it.

Summary

Adobe reader has become such bloatware and I really hoped this would be a better solution, but it hardly compares. For someone to benefit from this software, they must buy something.

"Good if you want to pay just what you need"

September 12, 2013  |  By SengU87

 |  Version: PDF Architect 1.0.52

Pros

You get a free feature of combining, splitting, and reordering PDF if you just sign up your email. Remove from email list as needed.
Other features can be purchased as needed if you don't want to pay full price included in Adobe Acrobat. If you need all the features, you should probably opt for Adobe Acrobat.

Cons

Have to go through some setup for some features.
By default, it installs plug-in for IE and integration for Office products. It can be removed in custom installation or change program under control panel.

"this program sucks"

July 08, 2013  |  By planet_horizon

 |  Version: PDF Architect 1.0.52

Pros

I hate to say it, but I installed this program and trusted my computer with the plugin, but it slowed all the office products down.

Cons

It takes a long time to open a document in word, excel, publisher, outlook, etc. It would have benefited me if I would have reviewed what people were saying about it before, but my mistake. It has frustrated the heck out of me. It is very unfortunate. DO NOT DOWNLOAD this program!!

Summary

The plugin is detrimental to the office product family. I would give it a zero star rating, but that is not possible. ABYSMAL!

May 29, 2013  |  By juanpbotha

Pros

Not much...nice interface?

Cons

Pay Pay Pay for everything. Not even a trial to see if it can actually do for what you have to pay.

Summary

DO NOT download.
