After confronting the Devil himself, the main protagonist, Daniel Garner realized that both demons and angels have tricked him into believing that he can join his beloved wife Catherine in a better place.
With his hopes shattered, Daniel has no clue on how to escape this damned place until Death itself approaches him with an interesting offer: deliver seven legions of souls in order to meet his true love once more.
Reluctant at first, Daniel accepts the offer and starts on yet another killing frenzy against the demon armies of hell, but can Death really be trusted?
Battle against thousands of relentless souls
After receiving the Soulcatcher gun from Death, Daniel will have to explore the Purgatory once more in order to collect all seven thousands souls that will help him achieve his main goal, to reunite with his wife.
In terms of weapons, the game includes some of the most popular guns found in previous titles such as the stakethrower or electrodriver but, also introduces a few new ones including the Soulcatcher that shoots saw blades and can suck the soul out of your enemies in an instant.
Levels are structured in smaller areas where the player will have to dispose of entire hordes of enemies before advancing to the next one that will eventually lead to a powerful boss.
Co-op single player campaign and new multiplayer modes
While you can go guns blazing all by yourself in the single player campaign, Painkiller Hell and Damnation also gives you the chance to play it in co-op mode alongside a friend.
In addition to that, the multiplayer mode has also received a few improvements and now allows up to eight players to step into an arena and face a never ending horde of enemies with the goal to survive as long as possible. Of course, the classic multiplayer modes, such as deathmatch, team deathmatch or capture the flag are also present.
Escape from the Purgatory once and for all
Painkiller Hell and Damnation comes with a fresh graphic update by harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 3, managing to give a more detailed look to the classic levels veteran players know and love. The game also stands out thanks to the great selection of awesome weapons offered to the player.
Although the AI can be quite glitchy in some situations, you will surely have a great time as you blast your way through countless enemies.
